AIA Contract Documents
AIA Contract Documents comprise over 80 forms and contracts that define relationships and terms involved in design and construction projects. Prepared by the AIA with the collaboration of owners, contractors, attorneys, architects, engineers and others, the documents have been finely tuned over their 120 year history. As a result, these comprehensive contracts and forms are now widely recognized as the industry standard.
They are "standard forms" rather than "model documents". This means that each contract is intended to be used with modifications clearly indicated to alert the non-drafting party to variations from the baseline. Changes to a standard form are always identified so those who are familiar with the document through repeated use may quickly measure the risks of a particular adaptation of the document to a specific situation.
